Lots of low level chatter as long as I can remember that the southeastern tribes might have had cultural links to the Mayans, and some DNA researchers have purported to find a connection. Does prove anything, but I find it interesting because I have some genetic matches with Mexicans that are apparently only explicable if they come through my Cherokee ancestry. I’d say both the believers and the non-believers have overstated their cases.
I find the idea of long distance migrations fascinating. After all, the time from humans crossing the Bering strait to humans arriving at the Cape Horn was VERY short (single-digit millenia, at most). So we know people can move. I enjoy new information, and new speculation. What I really dislike is people stating “facts” far beyond the available evidence.
